As a 15-year home winemaker, I now have the perfect setup. But it wasn’t always this way. I started with trusty trash barrels, which worked for three years, but it was too much work for so little wine. Later, I began to rent equipment — crusher/destemmers, pumps, presses, bottle corkers — and ended up buying some by my fourth year. I bought a small crank press for 1/4-ton loads, and a water bladder press for loads larger than a ton.
