MICHAEL LARNER is Winemaker and General Manager at the family-run, boutique Larner Vineyard in Santa Barbara. He received his Master’s degree from the Department of Viticulture and Enology at the University of California at Davis in 2005 and earned a BS in geology at the University of Colorado at Boulder. He has traveled to three continents for wine apprenticeships working for E. Guigal in France’s Rhône Valley, Marchesi Antinori in Tuscany, Italy and various estates in Australia and California.  He is also a regular judge at wine competitions including Italy’s largest competition, the Concorso Enologico Internazionale in Verona, and the California State Fair Commercial Wine Competition. He is an active member of the Santa Barbara Vintners’ Association and a founding architect of the proposed Ballard AVA in Santa Barbara. His passion is Rhône-style wines.
